Karnesh Sharma is Anushka's older brother. Karnesh Sharma was a member of the Merchant Navy, and is currently a film producer. Anushka has finished her education at the Army School Bangalore. She is also a bachelor of Arts from Mount Carmel College in Bangalore. Anushka has a Masters in Arts (Economics). Anushka wanted to become a journalist or model and not a performer. Anushka was enrolled into Elite Model Management after graduating and underwent training by Prasad Bidapa, the stylist consultant. Anushka's first time as a fashion model was in 2017 when she walked for Wendell Rodricks at Lakme Fashion Week after which she was picked by Rodricks for a role in his Spring Summer 2007 collection. In her screen test she was not willing to take an unplanned test and instead took the day off to practice. In the following days she was cast in three films for Yash Raj Films. She was the young wife of a man who was older in the film (the exact same character that Shah Rukh Khan played). The film was hit on the box office and was the second-highest-grossing movie of 2008. Anushka performed along with Shahid Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor, Vir Das as well as Meiyang Chang in the 2010 film "Badmash Company". The film received mixed reviews. Anushka was also seen alongside Ranveer in the movie 'Band Baaja Baaraat', in which she portrayed an Punjabi middle class woman who launched her own venture. It received positive reviews.
